About NAPD

The National Academy of Police Diving, or NAPD, was formed in 1988 by a group of full-time police divers to establish a national standard for police and public safety diver training and certification. It has provided training to police officers, fire departments, military divers, and environmental investigators throughout North America, Central America, South America, Russia, Australia, the Caribbean, and the Philippines.

The NAPD provides a great opportunity for Public Safety Divers from both Fire and Police Departments to receive much-needed training in a dangerous field of work. Our goal is to standardize Police Diving across the Nation giving Public Safety Divers the tools needed to conduct safe and effective searches. With the training received through the NAPD our divers will come out of the water with one of two answers: “We found the item” or “The item is not in the search area.”

In an effort to be more effective with the increase of this training and stay in touch with past and present members, we have reconstructed our Board of Directors and Staff and have pushed forward with ideas that have been the stew pot for years.

My hope is that you will not only use the training that you have received from us but also pass it on. We will be hosting more Instructor courses and are setting up Regional Directors near you. Please keep in touch. We can use your help to get this training to departments around the Nation that desperately need it.
